I say decision because my parents asked me how I felt about it. Although it was their idea, it was mostly my choice. If your child is emotionally mature enough to skip a grade, then he is also mature enough to have a say in this matter. Also, if he is that advanced, then he will still not be very challenged in the next grade up. Even with having an early August birthday and being the youngest person in high school when I was a sophomore, I was still taking all upper-level classes, including college courses that were generally only offered to seniors.
Emotionally, you have to evaluate your own child. It is scientifically proven that boys mature more slowly than girls I am female. You need to understand how your child will handle himself in a different learning environment. I can honestly say that I would never have made it if I had not skipped a grade. In 3rd grade before I skipped , I would get stomach aches from boredom in school and miss about 1 day every week from them. As soon as I moved up a grade, the aches stopped.
I’m not saying that this will definitely happen to your son, but it is a strong possibility.

By Linda Perlstein Sunday, February 13, ; Page W20 Ask a group of seventh-graders how to conduct relationships, and much of their advice could apply just as well to adults: A grown man is unlikely to say to a grown woman, “You’re my backup if Jessica says no. And when they finally do go out with someone, they actually, well, go out.
The grown world is dying to know what it means for a middle schooler to have a girlfriend or boyfriend in today’s News-at era of supposed oral sex parties and sluttier-than-thou dating shows. Kids from Howard, Fairfax and Montgomery counties agreed to explain, and one of them, sixth-grader Kimiya Memarzaden, gives an answer that is charmingly coy. Chris Hartlove “Going out,” Kimiya explains, “is being more than friends and less than actually going somewhere.
Still, like anyone in middle school, she can thoroughly explain relationship etiquette, name all the couples in her grade seven at press time and capture in one brief sentence all that seems strange about middle school romance: Of course there’s a point. If we didn’t ever have these fumbling attempts, how would we learn? Certainly a small minority of middle schoolers are having sex, and another small group pays no attention to the whole crush thing.
Not every kid is experiencing romance in the same way. But for the bulk of children from sixth through eighth grade, the customs are similar, and surprisingly enduring. Mail icon The candy treats didn’t even pass through their lips. The girls just wanted to see what would happen when they shone red and green lasers at different-colored gummy bears. The fun experiment was part of a daylong, girls-only science event at West Chester University that took direct aim at a vexing problem: Even in an era when more women are attending college than men, there is still a shortage of females working in the fastest-growing fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.
Other workshops at Super Science Saturday included using DNA evidence to solve crimes, a dinosaur-fossil dig for would-be biologists, and computer programming to create a virtual world. The sessions were led by female West Chester professors and aided by undergrads majoring in some of the so-called STEM fields, so that the girls would get coaching from someone close to their own age. In the wider world of science, there aren’t a whole lot of female role models. A survey by the U. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that not only do women make up just 25 percent of the workforce in information technology but that they are more likely to drop out of the field than men.
Other surveys show the rate of young women majoring in fields such as computer science is actually dropping sharply – even as high-tech jobs have recently shown the most growth and some of the highest starting salaries. Other science and math fields are also underrepresented. Saturday’s event – heavily promoted to female middle and high school students across the Philadelphia region – aimed to reach girls at the age when they’re making career choices and teach them that scientific work is not just important, but can be a lot of fun.
